Gary R. Shook Named Chairman of the Virginia Bankers Association
Gary R. Shook has been named Chairman of the Virginia Bankers Association.
Middleburg, VA (June 19, 2013) – The Virginia Bankers Association announced today that Gary R. Shook has been named Chairman of the Virginia Bankers Association. Shook is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Middleburg Bank. He succeeds Jeffrey M. Szyperski, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Chesapeake Bank, to become VBA’s 121st Chairman.
Commenting on Shook’s election, Bruce T. Whitehurst, VBA President and CEO said, "For more than two decades, Gary has proven his loyalty and dedication to the banking industry and his community. The Virginia Bankers Association is proud to name him Chairman and stand beside him as he leads Virginia banking in the upcoming year."
Shook is an alumnus of the University of Virginia. He has been with Middleburg Bank since 2005. Before joining Middleburg Bank, he held the title of Senior Vice President of Fauquier Bankshares, Inc. from 1995 to 2005. Over the years, Shook has dedicated much of his time to serving on local boards in key roles such as Director of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chairman of the Fauquier Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Bluemont Concert Series, President of the Rotary Club of Warrenton, and Senior Warden and Vestryman of St. James’ Episcopal Church. Currently, he is a Trustee of the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges and a Member of the CEO Cabinet of Loudoun County.
